Lumley Primary Federation

Nursery

Welcome to Lumley Primary Federation’s nursery school. We have a purpose-built nursery unit within the Infant School grounds, providing a safe, vibrant place for pupils to thrive. We have a wonderful outdoor space to learn and play, and children have regular access to our Forest School area. Nursery pupils use the main school hall weekly for their physical education sessions, as well as joining in events and celebrations with the rest of school; this makes their transition to Reception seamless, as the staff, environment and routines are so familiar.

Pupils are taught by highly qualified and experienced teachers. We follow the Early Years curriculum with an emphasis on developing pupils’ basic skills and knowledge to ensure they are prepared for Reception.

Children attend every day during term time (excluding bank holidays and teacher training days) on one of the options below:

  • Mornings only – 8.30am-11.30am
  • Afternoons only – 12.15pm-3.15pm
  • 30 hours – 9.00am-3.00pm (option to pay extra to drop-off between 8.30am-9.00am)

Open Event

In January each year, we hold an open event to allow parents and children to view the Nursery unit and meet some of the staff. Please email lumley.infants@durhamlearning.net if you would like to be informed when the date has been agreed.

Applications
Children are eligible to join our Nursery at the start of the term following their 3rd birthday. We have a limited number of 15 and 30-hour places available each academic year. Children on our waiting list are offered a 15-hour place, allocated in date of birth order. If we then have places remaining, we
can accommodate requests for 30-hour places from eligible families. Please check your eligibility on www.childcarechoices.gov.uk if you are unsure of the criteria.

Most of our places are allocated to start in September (parents will be contacted the April before). We then usually have a few places remaining for a January start (parents will be contacted the November before).

We accept applications once children turn 2.

An application form (NA1 form) is attached. This can be returned by email to
p2108.admin@durhamlearning.net or in person to the Infant School Office.
